Airplane Workers United
February 2023
$54 Billion: Covid-19 relief given to airlines in 2020/2021 to stay ready to fly.
$10 Million: Average airline CEO compensation in 2020 for 4 largest U.S. airlines.
$8:00: Oklahoma wheelchair agent wage in 2022.
Earlier in 2023, I had the honor of documenting SEIU Airport Workers United--a union fighting to make airports better for all of us--as they rallied in Washington, D.C. to demand Congress pass legislation ensuring they receive a livable wage with benefits. The Good Jobs for Good Airports Act would set national wage and benefit standards, including guaranteed sick days. Airport service workers are a service workforce powered by predominantly Black, Brown, and immigrant workers.
Over the days spent together, workers underwent extensive call-to-action and lobby training. The first day's rally took place at DCA Airport in support of DCA's airline workers. At Capitol Hill, in solidarity with Airport Workers United joined Sen. Ed Markey, Rep, Jesús "Chuy" García, and more.
